Firm Turns the Tables
Firm Turns the Tables on Training Expense Demand
Downriver client Tyler came to our office because his former employer was attempting to collect training expenses from him. The former employer had gone so far as to hire multiple law firms to collect the alleged debt.
Upon looking into the situation, our attorneys found that not only did Tyler not owe them a dime, they in fact owed him money!
Our attorneys took steps to resolve the matter without the need for litigation, but, as employers often do, the company refused to budge until a lawsuit was filed.
Once our lawsuit was filed, we were able to demonstrate to the employer how the company violated the Fair Labor Standards Act. The company had failed to pay Tyler his last paycheck and regularly did not pay him for time that he worked from home. After demonstrating this to the employer, the employer settled Tyler’s claims.
Not only did we get them to agree to never try to collect training expenses from Tyler, they paid an amount that covered the paycheck. The office was able to get Tyler this all at no cost to him!
Tyler was extremely satisfied with how we handled his case.
“I’ve told my family and friends that if they ever need a lawyer, I would recommend the Law Offices of Bryan Yaldou,” Tyler said.
We are proud to help hardworking clients like Tyler. Remember, just because your employer does something, it does not make it right, let alone legal. If you think your employer has violated the law, it’s always best to talk to an attorney about the situation.
